Studying the Certificate IV in Building and Construction course at Orange College gives you the skills to supervise a small residential or commercial project construction business. The course has been specifically designed for students looking to start a career in the building industry, and for those who wish to change careers or re-enter the workforce.

The Certificate IV in Building and Construction qualification lays the foundation for a significant range of careers and employment pathways, including a trade career or as a builder, or others including:

Methods of assessment for the Certificate IV in Building and Construction include written questions, projects, observations, presentations, case studies, reports and practical activities.
Assessment processes cover a broad range of skills and knowledge needed to demonstrate competency. All assessments of the units of competency for this qualification are conducted in accordance with the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.
Full time (20 hours per week – 70% hours face to face and 30% hours online), Learners may require 5 hours* of self-directed learning per week (*Indicative only).
This is an intensive program that is delivered through a blended training model. Students are required to attend 14 hours/week (including tutorials/simulation or a construction site visit) and 6 hours online-based on blended learning (within a 20 hours per week schedule).

If a certificate or statement of results is produced and verified, a credit transfer process will be initiated by Orange College in relation to the units as per the training plan. Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.” (Source: AQF)
Upon enrolment of all learning programs, Orange College’s code of practice states that all candidates for assessment will be offered RPL. This is reiterated in the student handbook and acknowledged in writing.
RPL is an assessment process that assesses an individual’s non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification.“Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.” (Source: AQF)
On successful completion of this course the learners are going to be awarded Certificate IV in Building and Construction, which is a nationally recognised qualification.
Students who do not complete all units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of the Certificate IV in Building and Construction.

This qualification provides a trade outcome in building and construction for residential and commercial construction work. Additional units of competency may be required to meet painter registration requirements in various States and Territories.

Courses at Orange College for international students are all on-campus with an online component (for each unit) that does not contribute to more than 30% of the overall unit. This means that students will study every unit/subject both online (30%) and via on-campus (70%) mode.
International students on a student visa are required to study full-time, i.e. the student must complete a minimum of 1.0 EFTSL of study per year.

(Traineeship)
Training is undertaken at the workplace. All trainees undertaking workplace based training for this qualification are withdrawn from routine work duties for a minimum of three hours per week, averaged over a four week cycle, for the purpose of undertaking structure training/learning activities (pro-rata for part time). Up to 12 months of time is allocated by OIC to complete the qualification.
* Workplace based training must be agreed to by the employer, the apprentice/trainee, and the RTO if it is to be successful. The workplace must be OHS compliant at all times and the employer takes full responsibility for this matter.
**Please note that all activities and assessments will be completed/ submitted via a learning management system.
