January 26th is the national public holiday, ‘Australia Day’. It marks the anniversary of the arrival of the first settlers in Australia and celebrates what it means to be Australian: free speech, sense of a fair go and diverse nation.
In celebration of Australia Day, Orange International College hosted an Australian BBQ at Flagstaff Gardens on the 25th of January, the 26th being a public holiday. It is an Australian tradition to enjoy a Barbie with Australian inspired food with friends and family on Australia Day. A lot was happening on the day as we were busy cooking the barbie, students had a kick of the footy and played soccer and volleyball. Frisbee was also a big hit with the students. Together, staff and students enjoyed some snags and burgers from the barbie waving the Australian flag and soaking up the Aussie summer sun.
