After the success of the many movie workshops we’d had at the college and after listening to our students’ feedback, we decided to catch a flick in one of Melbourne’s cinemas. After all, we cannot compete against the big screen and the comfortable seats in the movie theatre.
On the 5th of March, ELICOS students and the teachers set off to Hoyts Cinema in Melbourne Central. One of the students suggested that we watched Green Book which had just won the Academy Award for Best Picture, so we did. What a brilliant choice it turned out to be! It was humorous, moving, inspiring and the list could go on.
We then sat down in a café for some lunch and shared out thoughts about the film. We talked about the plot, what we liked about it and the elements we could relate to. Everyone absolutely loved it.
What a delightful experience it was and to be able to do it with our students made it even more special. We look forward to our next movie date! Here is one of our favourite quotes from the movie:
“You never win with violence. You only win when you maintain your dignity.” – Don Shirley (Green Book)
