The hospitality Pronunciorange was well attended on Friday the 24th of November. This time, there were ten Colombian participants newly arrived in Melbourne.
The focus was to work with useful sentences and follow up questions throughout the whole presentation. For instance, I would like to order eggs, please? How would you like them cooked? Participants, started off in groups by matching 6 breakfast images with their names. Then, with the power point slide, we drilled pronunciation and continued with other breakfast menu items. A menu was handed out to attendees to identify new words and get familiar with an Australian menu.
Food allergies, gluten free and vegetarian options were explained, participants had to clearly point out at examples on the menu. Images of the most common beers were displayed on the compurter and pronounced. Followed by coffee making skills and the difference between different kinds of coffee.
To introduce soft drinks and such, a wine glass was showed, and attendees had to guess the spelling of the word, while playing hangman. Then discussed drinks that could be served in the different kind of glasses. Within this topic, participants brainstormed types of wine like Shiraz, Pinot grigio. There was a discussion about tips to improve a resume and things to avoid.
In the end, participants were engaged, enjoyed, pronounced and practised useful sentences to put into practise in their new jobs.
