This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in 20 units of competency, including 17 core units, 3 elective units.
Electives must be selected as follows:
• All three (3) units from the list of electives provided in the Training Package CPC31320, or
• Two (2) units from the listed electives in CPC31320, plus one (1) unit from any current Training Package or accredited course at the same AQF level (Certificate III or higher), provided that it:
» Contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome
» Maintains the integrity of the AQF level of this qualification
» Does not duplicate the outcome of another unit already selected in this qualification
*Units with an asterisk above have CPCCWHS2001 Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures as a prerequisite. Prerequisite unit/s must be assessed before assessment of any unit of competency with an asterisk. All prerequisite requirements are packaged in the qualification.
The selection of elective units has been validated by gaining feedback on the course design through industry consultation.
Assessment methods for this qualification include Guided Online Learning and Training (GOLT), written questions, projects, observations, presentations, case studies, reports, practical activities and work placement (if applicable only). GOLT are online, auto-marked summative assessments like True/False, Fill-in-the-Blanks, and Multiple-Choice questions.
- Students are required to attend 14 hours of face-to-face training/ assessment per week, including simulation, tutorials and supervised support sessions.
- They are also expected to complete 6 hours of guided online-based learning, making up a 20-hour structured learning week.
- In addition, learners may need to engage in up to 15 hours of self-directed learning per week (indicative only).
The training will be delivered in 59 weeks with classes scheduled for 43 weeks and 16 weeks of break/ extra tutorials/reassessment period as per the requirements of the individual student/learner. Classroom delivery is implemented by setting up an appropriate training plan indicating the units and sequence of delivery and access to the session plan and LMS.
- Be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the college.
- Must have satisfactorily completed studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to an Australian Year 11/12 qualification.
- Have an IELTS band score of overall 6.0 (Academic or General) or equivalent in line with the Department of Education and the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) regulations (Refer to the DOHA’s website and OC’s International Application, Enrollment and Orientation Policy for further details).
- Be competent in written and spoken English and will undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital literacy test prior to commencing the training. Refer to LLND policy for further details.
- Have a sense of balance and the ability to cope with the physical demands of the training and assessment that involves working at heights, heavy lifting, manual labor, operation of tools (both manual and power tools), etc.
- Have internet access and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. The student’s device must also have a camera and speaker functions. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy applies to this course.
Credit Transfer
If a certificate or statement of results is produced and verified, a credit transfer process will be initiated by Orange College in relation to the units as per the training plan. Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. RPL
Upon enrollment of all learning programs, Orange College’s code of practice states that all candidates for assessment will be offered RPL. This is reiterated in the student handbook and acknowledged in writing. RPL is an assessment process that assesses an individual’s non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification.

On successful completion of this course, the students are going to be awarded the CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling, which is a nationally recognised qualification.
Students who do not complete all the units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in the partial completion of the qualification.

The qualification has core units of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.
