Meet Babloo Ratan,
Babloo Ratan enrolled in Building and Construction at Orange College, where he gained a 360-degree knowledge of the Tasmanian and National building standards and the best practice in the construction industry and the specific skills to flourish on-site.
Now working at Hudson Civil Products in Launceston, Babloo’s role is to make precast concrete as per the clients requirement. While this is an entry level role, Babloo tells us that “starting from the ground level gives new entrants more knowledge about the industry”.
He started his Australian journey in Melbourne, but soon fell in love with the natural charm of Tasmania. In Melbourne, Babloo completed a Master of Information Technology, but later decided to pivot towards a more hands-on career in construction. The raw beauty of Tasmania with its clear views of the Milky Way galaxy, and experience working on the land with local Taswegians has helped Babloo feel connected to the community and really feel at home.
The first stop was Deloraine, a ‘must-visit’ town for anyone visiting the Apple Isle. There he experienced the closeness to nature that one can only find in regional Australia. He got to know his surroundings, taking a dip in the Bay of Fires, and learning about the history of Port Arthur.
Life in Tassie has proven to be as engaging as it is rewarding.
Babloo recommends for international students traversing the challenges and opportunities of studying and working in Australia, that they pre-plan and research as much as possible, and to get in touch with people who are studying at the college you are planning to study at through LinkedIn. When you arrive, immerse yourself in every aspect of the place you live. While not directly related to the job position, all of that ‘soft’ cultural knowledge will be invaluable when you reach the workplace.
