Meet Ranjit Singh,
Ranjit completed both the Certificate III Carpentry as well as the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) at Orange College and currently he works as a carpenter at a Steel Frame factory and needs to liaise with a wide range of other tradesmen including electricians, plumbers and other carpenters.
Ranjit says that work is very busy everyday with no shortage of things to do. Being able to use the equipment safely and with maximum efficiency was a major upgrade for Ranjit. Even for international students with prior experience in industry, adjusting their skill set to the technology and processes of the local industry standards is a critical driver of success.
Ranjit tells us, “One of the best aspects of living and working in Australia is the tolerant and multicultural society that we have here”. It’s a great place for international students to come because they can learn a lot, everyone here is very welcoming. Ranjit emphasised that in Australia if you work hard, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. In many places around the world there are massive barriers to individual success, but here there are a lot of opportunities for people to succeed.
Ranjit loves it here in Australia, he doesn’t even mind the weather in Melbourne – which says more about his positive attitude than Melbourne! He was previously a state representative in field hockey for Punjab, and still loves playing hockey here in Melbourne. It is a city full of opportunities both professional and sporting!
