Marcus Woolf

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Marcus was in Australia for about three and a half years before returning home. While in Australia, Marcus studied the Cert III Carpentry and the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) with Orange College, to hone his craft and take his skills to the next level. Since finishing, Marcus has gone on to set up his own company, Woolf & Co Bespoke Carpentry.

As a carpenter by trade, Marcus worked mainly with decking, fencing and house renovations while he was in Australia and now back in the UK. He also does his own tiling, kitchen fitting and other elements of the building trade as a true all-rounder.

Although he already had a good existing knowledge of the industry having worked in the UK for many years before coming to Australia, learning at Orange College helped get Marcus’ skills recognised via certification. This alongside some great teachers, Marcus was able to further his knowledge and skills in carpentry.

What motivates Marcus is his love of problem solving, whether this is trying to tie in old with new or making something square, or even just making simple jigs to make my work easier. He tells us: “No day is the same as the next. It is a constant learning curve as you work alongside other trades and can see how your work affects theirs and vice versa.”

Speaking of the future, Marcus would like to return to Australia and continue working and developing. The plan is, once getting his builder’s licence and setting up his own company locally, he aspires to help other English/internationals follow their carpentry path too.

Marcus has an inspiring vision for his contribution: “I feel the Australians value English building skills highly, so I would like to help Australia grow in some way, even if it’s only a small effort in the grand scheme of things.”
